Australia Day 5: Goodbye Cairns, Goodnight Sydney!

Hi Love Bugs,

I was so sad to leave Cairns (pronounced Cans). We had such an amazing time! The water was absolutely beautiful, the people were incredibly nice, and the scenery was just breathtaking. I know I will visit this majestic place again in the future. We stayed at the Hilton Cairns, and it was wonderful. It was very clean, and the staff was overwhelmingly helpful and friendly. I can’t stress enough how absolutely wonderful Australians are.

Before finally leaving Carins, we decided to walk around the small beachy town one last time. We tried Australian candy (TimTams) and a savory Meat Pie. In Australia, pies are not sweet, they are more so savory in taste. Biscuits are also called cookies. If you know me personally, you know how much I LOVE BISCUITS! I quickly figured out that I need to ask for a scone in order to get a buttery, delicious, fluffy, ball of biscuty heaven…yum my favorite!

This savory Meat Pie tastes like Shepherds Pie.

This little “biscuit” tastes like a cross between a KitKat and a nice glass of Nestle Chocolate Milk. It is an Australian favorite, and pretty delicious!

After walking the streets of Cairns, it was finally time for us to head back to the Hilton, which I highly recommend to any future travelers, and make our way to the airport. In Australia, the cars drive on the opposite side of the road than in the US, and if you don’t look left as opposed to right, you will get squashed before you even have a chance to blink. There is also an abundance of roundabouts, and very few street lights. The taxis also drive incredibly fast, and if you look out the window to oncoming traffic, it looks as though the cars are going to hit you in a head-on collision.

The picture below is a little hazy and far away, but we were able to see the Opera House and Sydney Harbour while flying into the city. It was amazing, and it definitely got us excited for what was in store.

We checked into a beautiful room at the ShangriLa with breathtaking views!

We had an amazing first night in Sydney, and I can’t wait to show you what is in store for our first big day in the city! I will miss Cairns very much, and I highly recommend a visit for all ocean and sea lovers.

Until next time, Love Bugs!

Christina
