I am watching the sunrise over the water as I type this. Our trip to SavuSavu, Fiji was quite the adventure. Our initial flight leaving Sydney was delayed 2 hours leaving us praying we wouldn’t miss our connection in Nadi. Fijians are so unbelievably nice and helpful. If it weren’t for the gracious staff at the Nadi airport, we would have missed the last flight. They held the plane for us and a family of 3 for 45 minutes! Can you believe that? That would never happen in the US. After we got to Nadi, we figured out exactly WHY they waited….it is quite funny because we made up nearly half the plane (Scroll down to see pictures). The flight from Nadi to SavuSavu was absolutely beautiful–the mountains, the reefs, the vibrant colors of the ocean. It was picturesque to say the least. Once we arrived to Namale, we truly found our hidden paradise. The resort is amazing, and the people are even more wonderful. We settled into our “burre,” tried Kava, and had a delicious dinner! This place is truly great.
Some pictures of our flight into SavuSavu (the reefs from above were just unbelievably gorgeous):
This is the tiny little airport we flew into. It is right in the middle of the rainforest with a nice slab of (1) concrete runway.Yes, we braved this 13 seat plane! We could see everything the 2 pilots were doing. Us scared? well of course! lolThe amazing Namale crew welcoming us with the Bula Bula (hello and welcome) song. Our amazing drinks ready and waiting for us! They were delicious!
Below are pictures from our beautiful Siga (Sunshine) Burre:
Welcome flowers waiting for us at our door step! Our tropical pathway to our burre. We were welcomed to this keepsake sign that I am of course in love with! I can’t wait to take it home.Gorgeous water views from everywhere in our room!
It is hard to see, but we also have water views here as well! Our beautiful bathroom!Flowers by the showerChampagne on arrival? I think so!View from our amazing room!Kava Ceremony. Yes, we tried it! It wasn’t bad. It is made with pepper, and makes your throat tingle. You have to participate in the tradition when trying kava: one clap means you accept the offer, you then drink the kava in its entirety, then three claps means thank you. It was definitely very cool to be apart of the ceremony.
Drink specials for the night! It was focused around a red theme for the blood moon, which we saw…absolutely beautiful!Delicious Dinner! I had the Vegetable Lo Mein.Sean had the steak, and loved it!This is the Pav Roll. Now dessert was heavenly–this is the chocolate mousse.Nightly turn down service. I am in LOVE with the mosquito nets! Goodnight world.
We love Fiji! We can’t say enough. I will be back again and again and again! It is only 4 hours farther than Hawaii…that isn’t horrible right? Talk to you soon, Love bugs! I hope you enjoyed our first evening in Fiji.
